About Us.
The Silmac Story:
Susan and James MacMahon had a vision to
start a machinery business to service the
horticultural and agricultural industries in
and around Orange.
James with his extensive knowledge of
horticulture, due to growing up on an orchard in
Tasmania, saw the opportunity and commenced
business in 1980 (Silvan Machinery), in an era
when Orange was heavily populated with orchards.
As Orange farming diversified so did the
business which quickly outgrew its original
premises in McNamara St, and a larger premises
was purchased in Peisley St.
Although the focus initially was farm
machinery, in 1988 saw Silvan Machinery move in
to farm merchandise which extended the range
extensively allowing Silvan Machinery to be a complete
farming solution. With this move a name change
was prompted, as Silvan Machinery did not
portray the direction the business was moving
and was shortened to Silmac. James father
John-Mac also moved to Orange to help out in his
retirement as Silmac was going through this
growth stage.
The new opportunities saw Silmac expand.
Through growing strong relationships with
clients and major suppliers Silmac soon became
one of the largest suppliers of fertilizer,
fencing, agricultural chemicals, animal health
and machinery in the central west.
The new millennium unveiled a prosperous
future for Silmac with both James and Susan’s
two sons Max and Michael joining the business,
each bringing their individual expertise.
The year of 2009 saw Silmac take another exiting step forward, with the opening of another branch in Bathurst. The mirror store located on the busy corner of Sydney Rd and Oberon Rd has plenty to offer the Bathurst district with the same honest friendly service Silmac has built its name from.
The team at Silmac are excited about the future of farming and look forward to continuing to develop long lasting relationships, and maintain growing together. |
